South America: A Day In The Life of Indiana Jones!
49South America is one of the most adventurous continents in the world. You can climb mountains, eat lunch with alligators, or go on a canopy tour through the rain forest on any given day. In general, there are plenty of outdoor activities you can partake of with your family to make your trip one of the most memorable you’ve ever had.
If you are planning to go to South America, you have to set your budget and plan your whole vacation ahead of time. So what can you really do in South America? Here are some cheap vacation ideas that might fit into your travel plan:
1. Tour Peru. Hike through ancient ruins in the Sacred Valley of the Incas before going on board on the Inca Trail Hike to Machu Picchu. Explore the Amazon rainforest and bike your way through Andean Mountain passes. Given the challenging trails and steep climbs, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.
2. Have a Patagonian adventure. Patagonia is the hiking capital of the world. Enjoy the sights by foot, kayak, bike, and boat. Many companies offer tours with experienced guides that can help you navigate the terrain.

3. See evolution in action at the Galapagos Islands. Snorkel or dive around Floreana Island and Kicker Rock to catch a glimpse of the sea lions and turtles. Come face to face with the hundred year old Galapagos giant tortoises in their natural habitat. If that’s not enough adventure for you, hike up the Sierra Negra Volcano on Isabela Island to see wonderful views of the archipelago.
4. Explore Ecuador. Ecuador offers high country volcanic plateaus to hike through. If you rent a bike, cycle down Cotopaxi, which is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. Kayak through the waterfalls of the rainforest to see and hear the wildlife all around you.
5. Coast through Colombia. Despite its reputation as a haven for drug lords, Colombia is relatively safe. So relax and enjoy your adventure through the beautiful mountains, aromatic coffee plantations, and wonderful beaches. Colombia is well-known for its cuisine. Take pleasure in their delicious waffles, crepes, salads and other desserts.
There are still more adventures you can have in South America with a limited budget. Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Nicaragua are also great places to check out. Either way, plan your vacation ahead of time, and you’ll surely have the time of your life!
