Here Come the Holidays!
52The holidays are a special time of the year where the people get to bond and celebrate with their families and friends. It’s that time of the year where people are not ashamed to say “sorry” to the ones they have hurt and say “thank you” to the ones who have done them good throughout the year. It’s a time to show your love and care for one another and make up for any lost communication during the past year.
Preparing for the holidays is as fun and exciting as the actual holiday. Although some people make it a tedious job (BOO!), to most of us, being able to decorate the house with Christmas cheer and lights is abundantly fulfilling. Setting up the Christmas tree with your family can be an all night funfest. All these activites are great opportunities to show off your creative side. The materials used for decorations need not be expensive to be called beautiful. Sometimes, homemade gifts and decorations are far more meaningful than the ones bought. How many of your little ones Christmas drawings take up center stage on the fireplace mantle? So as much as possible don’t get stressed over the pressures of this special season. Time with Family and Friends
The support of the people around you is just want you need in the holiday season. The more people who join in the preparation, the better it is and the merrier it is going to be. Assign people to help around in the kitchen and do decorations. During the holidays, no one gets stuck doing the “dull” jobs because everything should be fun! If you get bored decorating Christmas trees, baking Christmas cookies or making egg nog, then something’s wrong with you! Spread the love and joy around during these early days of Christmas to set yourself up to have the best time possible during the actual big day!
Holiday To-do Lists
Of course, no holiday is complete without the rich, decadent meals traditionally served during this special time. The holidays are a glutton’s dream—to be a good host, make sure that the good food never runs out. Keep in mind that these dishes aren’t your typical fare, but rather a special menu for the holiday season. You can search online for recipes on how to make Thanksgiving turkey and how to make eggnog for starters. These are two of the most popular recipes during the holiday season. You can also serve holiday treats that the kids will love.
If you are planning to serve meals in your home, plan your holiday menus ahead of time. From your chosen menu, create a list of things that you need to purchase. Aside from the food, create lists of everything and anything that comes to mind for the Christmas season. Some things that might be included would be gifts, charitable donations, holiday decorations, table settings, invitations, Christmas trees, wrapping paper, and entertainment ideas. Take advantage of sale items—after-Christmas sales are especially good for next Christmas (it’s never too early to start shopping!). Spread the expenses out over the next couple of months as the holiday season is fast approaching rather than having to shell it all out over the holidays. Perhaps the holidays are at the end of the year to encourage you not to hold back. Give all the time, love, and words of kindness you can to your special friends and loved ones! That will surely make your season super memorable. Happy Holidays!
